Refreshing does not happen automatically anymore

#1 Post by Forez » 26.05.2023, 17:19

My FC suffers from lack of auto-refreshing for actions done outside of FreeCommander- e.g. if I delete something in any other program, the items are not removed from a Tab they "are" currently shown thus I have to somehow evoke refreshing manually [like going up one level and going back or just pressing CTRL + R

I do not know if this is caused by using 64-bit version, 64-bit portable or just portable - but when I was using 32-bit installed I had no such issue; on the contrary: when I went from x86 to x64 most of my issues with FC have disappeared

I have waited for weeks now, getting acquainted with 64-bit version and hoping for a fix with some update, but enough is enough. And I did went to

Tools > Settings > View > Files/folder list > Refresh

de-selected everything, closed FC, re-opened it and selected back everything with the exception of "Ignore..." as I had not been using it. But still my FC works in the same ill manner, i.e. not reacting automatically to changes occurring due to actions performed elsewhere

Auto Refresh works fine here with
FreeCommander XE 2023 Build 889 64-bit donor
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3296)
Everything Version 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.67
FreeCommander XE 2024 Build 905 64-bit donor

This problem of mine looks like another manifestation of that bug concerning ICO files [https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12838] - but on the other hand this one concerning refreshing of everything happens only in 64-bit version, while that previous one concerning just icons in all kinds of versions

Currently I am using Build 891 64-bit Donor Portable

Can you reproduce it if you make changes with Windows Explorer?
If that is reproducible, then try first with only first two refresh options.

I am beginning to suspect that

[...]
is a one of stages of the bug - or a separate one

Because I can more easily [i.e. more often] experience FreeCommander not refreshing after e.g. I execute in it CTRL+C and then [within the same folder] CTRL+V on a file. Like now when I can do it in also in Windows Explorer and see a copy of file in it but not in FC [until I refresh it]. And what is interesting, this seems to happens only with files but not with folders

All in all, with enough work done, my FreeCommander becomes unreliable due to lack of auto-refreshing

Could you try the default settings with the portable ZIP version http://freecommander.com/en/faq-freecom ... l-portable

Apparently my Build 891 64-bit Donor Portable when run with default settings has no problem in detecting a deletion or creation of copy of files and folders in Windows Explorer

Which paths are you using? Local drive, network, file container, FTP?

I can reproduce refresh problems with 891 64-bit portable and 880 32-bit portable, with the file container:

To reproduce:
- use default settings
- open FC 891 and FC 880 in window mode, so that both are fully visible on desktop
- in both instances create the SAME file container in the left panel
- in both instances create the same test folder A on local disk and enter this folder
- now create the test folder X in 891
= it's correctly shown in 880
- copy the folder X to file container in 891
= folder X is NOT shown in 880

Another one from this topic:
https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11185

- use default settings
- drag&drop file from file container to recycle bin in the splitter (confirmation dialog for delete operation in Windows should be disabled)
= file is not removed from file container

This one is strange, still can reproduce it first time, but after that, when I do the same step for another file, it works good.

FC 891 donor 64-bit portable and 880 32-bit public portable, Windows 10 22H2 64-bit.

More refresh issues reported here (I updated the topic for the latest version):

Ordinary folders on ordinary volumes formatted to NTFS, with cache and trim turned on for them and indexing turned off

I still cannot pin point the triggers other than a vague "somewhat a lot of operations". And I was unable to check if File Containers are then also affected by it when it occurs. And that is because it seems that I will have to stop whatever I will happen to be doing when it maifests itself again, as apparently some actions can make it go away - thus I will be able to indulge myself with this issue only when I will not be doing anything of importance and / or in a hurry

Would symptoms like me having to use always

Task Manager > Details > View > Refresh now

and sometimes

Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features > View > Refresh

in order to see the current state of affairs point out to something inherently wrong being with my Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2 x64 - which ill-working would [only sometimes] manifests itself in FreeCommander?
