[SOLVED] QV uses uLister instead of mmedia plugin, requires SHFT+ALT+M to view videos

#1 Post by Raindrops » 05.03.2023, 14:49

I am using 32-bit version of FC on Win 11, 64-bit.

I am facing a peculiar problem:
By default, the QV does not play video files (predominantly mp4 files).

It shows two different types of errors (the error type is file-dependent):
1. A viewer for this format is not currently available.
2. Rendering of this format is not supported.

The title bar of QV shows that the uLister plugin is being used instead of the mmedia plugin.

If I press SHFT+ALT+M, QV plays the video successfully.
But having to do this for each and every video is tedious.

When a video file is selected in the active folder panel, QV should start to play the video immediately.

-----------------------------------------------

My Configure viewer window settings are as follows:

In the General tab, mp4 file type is listed as "media"
(this is by default, I have not changed any settings in the General tab).

In the Multimedia tab, I have selected Windows Media Player 9.0 as media interface.
The Auto-start playback option is selected.

In the Plugins tab, I have added three plugins.
Their order and parameters (settings) are as shown below:

mmedia.uwlx
MULTIMEDIA

slister.wlx
Settings: EXT="PDF" | EXT="DJVU" | EXT="DJV"| EXT="XPS" | EXT="CBZ" | EXT="CBR" | EXT="EPUB" | EXT="CHM" | EXT="MOBI" | EXT="AZW3"

ulister.wlx
Settings: EXT!="EPUB" | EXT!="PDF" | EXT!="CHM" | EXT!="DJVU"

(I set this order after reading an old thread on this subject, which explains how to install these plugins, and what order to use.)

The "Plugins have higher priority than internal viewers" checkbox is selected.

Update:

I tried to change the settings of the mmedia.uwlx plugin

First, I changed the content of the Detect string column to "MEDIA"
(The General tag defines the term "Media" as audio/video extensions, so I thought changing "Multimedia" to "media" might work.)
But this did not work.

Then I entered the following string in the Detect string column:
EXT="MP4" | EXT="MVI" | EXT="MP3" | EXT="WEBM" | EXT="MKV" | EXT="MOV" | EXT="WMV" | EXT="FLV" | EXT="OGV" | EXT="OGG" | EXT="M4A" | EXT="AAC" | EXT="WMA"
But this did not work, either.

Solved!

I had overlooked the solution that is already provided in the same post.

Here is a summary of the steps I followed:

1. Download the zip file provided in this post
2. Create a new installation folder, and extract the following 32-bit files in it:
mmedia.wlx, MediaInfo32.dll, mmedia.ini
3. Launch FC, and press F12 to launch its Settings window.
4. In the node tree, click on the View > Viewer node.
5. Click on the [Viewer] button at the bottom of the screen.
This launches the Configure viewer window.
6. Click on the Plugins tab.
7. Click on the + button at the top, and browse to the mmedia.wlx file (see step#2).
8. In the Detect strings field, add the following:
EXT="MP4" | EXT="MVI" | EXT="MP3" | EXT="WEBM" | EXT="MKV" | EXT="MOV" | EXT="WMV" | EXT="FLV" | EXT="OGV" | EXT="OGG" | EXT="M4A" |
(These are typical audio+video files. Modify this list as needed.)
9. Move the plugin to the top of the stack
(place it above the sLister and uLister plugins)
10. Ensure that the "Plugins have higher priority than internal viewers" checkbox is selected.
11. Press OK to accept the changes and close the Configure viewer window.
12. Press OK to close the Settings window.
13. Restart FC.

Note: This plugin requires LAV Filters from GitHub.
Tip: If you have installed K-Lite codec pack, the LAV filters are already installed on your laptop.

Thanks go to @Horst.epp for providing the solution.
