FC-900 Rename problem

#1 Post by Ken_Cooper » 27.12.2023, 22:34

Having a problem renaming a Folder and/or a File - only in these two Windows11 Directories >

Pictures
Documents

Usually double select the line - to mark it Active - ready for "renaming", or I use RMB to get the popup - then select "Rename".

After doing either, I get a small Warning Panel > Operation failed, with a Red Circle and a White X.

After clicking Okay, the Rename Panel appears. Doing the rename there - doesn't work either.

If I then switch to Windows File Explorer, I can do the rename no problem...!

I tried reinstalling the last few versions of FC - back to 894 = same problem.

The Desktop icon for FC - always does have the "Run as administrator" option turned ON - in the Properties/Advanced panel.

Do you have access to other system and have you tried using FC on it?

What version of Windows are you currently running? And when did this started happening- after a Windows update?

Simply try to deactivate the option.
It is bad to run any program "as administrator".

A short time after posting, I tried an experiment.

In FC, I made a root folder called Picture, and copied the Pictures contents over.

Tried to then delete Pictures. It had the "Read Only" flag set ON. Warning Panel appeared = Not Allowed etc...

Tried using FC to fix that folder's 'Properties'.

It didn't seem to have any positive effect.

Later I booted into "Safe Mode" to make changes to the "Read Only" flag.

That procedure didn't help.

Used Windows File Explorer to delete the now empty Pictures folder

A pain in the ass.

I knew at some point, Windows would later recreate the "Pictures" folder.

Looks like Windows has several default folders - used by everyone... :)

Now using FC and working in the new "Picture" folder, I could Rename, Move, Delete etc.

The "Read Only" flag was somehow NOT set on this new folder.

Wow...

Then I had problems moving and renaming files within Videos/4kDownloader.

Agony...

Yesterday, Jan-09, I did a google search >

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 94a8e90e1a

There were a couple solutions shown. The first >

a. Open Windows Security by searching for it in the Start menu.
b. Click on "Virus & threat protection" in the left-hand menu.
c. Under "Ransomware protection," click on "Manage ransomware protection."
d. Turn off the toggle switch for "Controlled folder access."

This option wasn't seen - since it indicated that AVG was managing that aspect.

***

I looked at the installed modules of AVG.

One of it's tools - is called "Ransomware Protection".

To prevent anyone from mucking with my files - it sets the Properties Flag to "Read Only" - to a huge list of my folders and files.

I then turned that "Tool" permanently off.

Amazing - I now have normal access to my all files - on my computer... :)
