827: over/under split screen, program always opens with bottom panel focus

#1 Post by dsperber » 17.08.2020, 17:26

I have split screen over/under set, with Explorer Tree pane in both top and bottom panels.

Program is closed with top panel having the focus. Re-launching the program should still have the top panel with focus. However when the 827 program is re-launched it is now the bottom panel which always has the focus.

I've also tried then swapping the panels (so that bottom is now top and top is now bottom) so that it is now the top panel which has the focus, and then closing the program. But re-launching the program once again has the bottom panel with the focus.

Appears to be a bug introduced in 827. If I revert to version 826 and then the top panel is in focus when opened vs. bottom when I use 827.

This particular issue seems to have been cleared up with 828. Whichever panel has the focus at program-close, now seems to get it back correctly when program is re-launched.

I do, however, observe one new cosmetic issue with 828 (or at least a difference from previous versions): the horizontal space between items on the MENU bar has now grown. They are much farther apart.

Here is how my window looked before installing 828. Note that I'd backed off of 827 and gone back to 825. Note the "normal" space between MENU bar items.

And here is how the window now looks with 828 installed. The MENU bar items have "spread out". Not the end of the world, but different and unexpected.

828 fixed the focus issue for me but the new version does not have the "wide spacing" on the menu bar described. Maybe the resolution and/or scaling of the monitor is triggering this issue.

Yes, this can be related to scaling. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it.

Just out of curiosity, I did a full uninstall and deletion of all previous settings, and then installed 828 from scratch. I was curious to see if the new spread-out MENU bar item placement was somehow tied to upgrading my previous FCXE setup, and if it would be eliminated if I started over with a brand new from-scratch install of 828.

Turns out NOT. Turns out the same new spread-out spacing of the MENU bar items is still present. So I guess that's just going to be how it is, given my high-DPI desktop and 125% scaling. This particular desktop uses a 1920x1200 monitor.

Haven't yet upgraded any other machines (including one running a 4K monitor at 2560x1440 125%) to 828 but that will come soon. As I said, this is really just a cosmetic anomaly that hasn't ever looked that way in all previous versions, so it's hard to see why it should suddenly now appear in 828 because of use of a new compiler version and its associated library. I will just have to get used to it, I guess.
