ebay stuff

ebay stuff

Hello. I liked FreeComander, however I've just stopped the installation of current version after seen it includes eboy bullshit, spyware or else.

I've had a bad experience in the past with other freebie. It included a third partie spyware disguised as adware incrusted in the program code. At install time the user opt-out and the installer create a registry entry. The executable checked it and if present did his tasks. But if absent, then too deployed the spyware executable and launched it. This used virii techniques to autoreproduce, launch at system startup and connect to internet.

Is obvious that this scheme acted as a time bomb. I don't remember exactly if after system crash or else, but a day a nasty little window appeared promising that in few days I will be happier, younger, richer and two nice girls will be beside doing me caresses.

My question is: Is the ebuy stuff or portions of it incrusted in the FreeComander executable?

Hate to say it but it installed the ebay junk on my system too. It showed up at the exact second the folder for FreeCommander was put on my system so I can only say that it certainly appears to be part of the FreeCommander installer. At the very least you need to warn people, but honestly, if you're going to install this junk give us options to remove it. In fact, in parts of the world you're required by law to tell people what you install on their system.

Untick "create desktop shortcuts etc to ebay" when you are asked to install links to ebay or not in the installation procedure. No ebay at all!
Not so difficult

It is always a good idea to watch any installation process for options. For myself, I prefer to download zip files with no installer whenever possible. You can get Free Commander that way. Of course it means using some other file manager for a minute or two...
