Viewer only occupies a small area of the viewer pane

#1 Post by ADRz » 28.04.2020, 21:46

The viewer presents very small views, probably only 1/6th of the size of the viewer pane. My guess is that this is related to the fact that my laptop supports a UHD screen. I cannot think of any other reason. I wonder if there is a setting that would allow for better scaling in UHD screens

Which version are you using? Screenshot would help too.

How to report a bug (Read before posting!) - FreeCommander Forum
Dreamer wrote: 27.09.2007, 23:18Sometimes it's useful to make a screenshot of the problem. You can use the integrated FreeCommander feature (menu > Tools > Desktop Snapshot), or one of many free tools available on the Internet, or just the integrated Windows feature - press PrintScreen to make a screenshot, then open any image editor, e.g. Paint, press Ctrl+V to paste, save it and upload it to https://postimages.org/ , or https://imgur.com/ for example. Do not place large screenshots in the forum, use the links, or thumbnails instead. Please use the English language for screenshots, you can use /Lng=English command line parameter.

OK, I downloaded the image that you have required. The link is https://postimg.cc/Fd9hvjsT

I hope that this helps!!! Just some additional information: The OS is Win10 1909 Pro, the CPU is an 8th generation i7 with an Intel GPU, the screen is UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels).

Thanks, do you have this problem only with PDF files? You can try to use another PDF viewer, or wait for Marek, I think someone else had similar problem, but I'm not sure if it was already solved.

Which pdf program do you use?
Have you the same problem if you use viewer with F3?

Marek,

The viewer responds similarly for all types of files (either the viewer pane or the FnF3 version). The PDF files are not the only ones affected. Text and all MS Office files, including graphic format files have the same problem. My PDF program is PDF Architect 7 Pro, but I do not think that the problem resides there. It seems to me that the problem is directly related to scaling due to the UHD resolution of the screen. I would not be surprised that if other elements of the program respond badly to the scaling factor, although I have not come across any thus far. In terms of text, the Win10 scaling factor is set at 250% in this computer.

I found the other topic with a similar problem.

Quick viewer doesn't populate all available space - FreeCommander Forum

I think the problem is the scaling factor 250%.

Well, no, it is not. This scaling factor is quite typical for UHD displays in laptops. In larger monitors, it is probably set at 150%. Essentially, if this is the issue, then it goes to mean that the program's viewer is not working in UHD displays, which would be unfortunate.

Considering that UHD displays now are very common in laptops and in large desktop monitors (in fact, it is the defacto standard in desktop monitors), this would create a substantial problem for the program.

It's a misunderstanding, I meant, that it is probably caused by scaling factor 250%, not that you should not use it, it's a bug, of course.

Marek - FC author already fixed other similar issues.

@ADRz:
Sometimes you have to be patient.
The problems to be solved are often not easy.

On my monitor 3840x2160 I could reproduce your problem but only with PDF files. All other file types are displayed correctly in Viewer.
I have tested all scalings from 100% to 300%.
I use currently Windows 10 1903.
The settings for High-DPI in the properties of freecommander.exe maybe important. I use "Scaling carried out by the system".
The mentioned problem with pdf files is fixed in the release 819.

Thank you for the reply.

No, version 819 did not seem to have fixed the problem with the PDF files.

In what exact menu item is the "High-DPI" setting to be found?

Best regards,
