Clipboard not working
Clipboard not working
Updated today. Noticed in this version and at least back to 628 that the clipboard is not working. Even when I copy from within FC (ie copy a prefix when renaming files), paste is empty. Win7Pro x64.
Thanks.
Edit: Copy works, paste does not. IE: if I copy a filename prefix in FC, paste doesn't work in FC, but I can paste the string into other apps...

Try to describe very exactly what you do.I can confirm the clipboard is NOT working.

I see no problems with clipboard on my Windows 8/64.
Re: Clipboard not working
Symptom 1:
in File Explorer, select a folder,
go to the address bar, right click, select "Copy address as text", 2nd from top
in FC XE, click on the address bar (Alt-G), press Ctrl-V
result -> address bar is now blank.
Symptom 2:
in File Explorer, select a file, right click to rename the file name, then Ctrl-C to copy the file name only (no extension)
in FC XE, go to the same folder,
press Alt-F7 to bring up the Find dialog box
in the File Name box, press Ctrl-V
result -> nothing gets pasted
in the Containing text box, press Ctrl-V
result -> nothing gets pasted
To verify that there is something in the clipboard, open notepad, press Ctrl-V for each case described above.
Best Regards,
Jeff

No problem, it works very fine here.
Re: Clipboard not working
Great to hear.
Any suggestion how I can fix it?
It has stopped working a few rev back.
It's a nuisance

Re: Clipboard not working
Here is what I tried -
I renamed my existing Free Commander XE installation folder to "Free Commander XE 0".
I copied the compressed ZIP file (http://www.freecommander.com/bet.../fre ... rtable.zip) contents to a blank folder named "Free Commander XE".
I start up Free Commander XE (r633). Press Alt-G to paste in a full folder path I copied from File Explorer - it does not work.
I right clicked via keyboard to bring up the context sensitive menu in the Alt-G box. Select "Paste", nothing happens.
I then started XE from the old folder "Free Commander XE 0". Performed the same listed above. Got the same result.
Exactly the same result in Alt-F7 (Search files/folders) dialog box.
Any suggestion I might get the copy paste work in XE?
I also tried the same in the original FreeCommander and it works fine for both Alt-G (address bar) and Alt-F7 (File / Folder search).
Please help.
Thanks.

Re: Clipboard not working
Please copy the compressed ZIP file to any new folder, e.g. c:\test.
You have now: c:\test\FreeCommanderXE.
Create the folder c:\test\FreeCommanderXE\SETTINGS.
Create new empty file freecommander.ini in the folder c:\test\FreeCommanderXE\SETTINGS.
Be sure you have no freecommander.ini in the folder c:\test\FreeCommanderXE.
Start c:\test\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.exe and test now.

Re: Clipboard not working
Thanks for the instruction.
I did exactly the same and was unable to Paste into Alt-G and Alt-F7 use either right-click or Ctrl-V.
Here is the directory listing of the newly created folder "FC XE"

I do not know, why it does not work for you.
Have you tried on other PC?

Re: Clipboard not working
Clipboard is still not working on my setup either.
freecommander_xe_portable633. Win7 X64 Pro.
I can confirm that text can be copied (ie a filename) but not pasted in FC (ie to rename a file), but the copied text can be pasted into other apps.

Re: Clipboard not working
I have tracked this down a bit further. It has to do with Windows *sometimes* formatting the clipboard to other than plain text.
For example, sometimes I can paste copied text into Thunderbird, other times it will only paste if I use "Paste Without Formatting". Sometimes "Paste Without Formatting" is not necessary - even when copying from the same application - it seems to depend on what has been copied.
I am always able to paste into EditPlus. Copying back from EditPlus (and presumably any text editor worth its salt) seems to convert back to plain text.
However, under no circumstances am I able to paste into FreeCommander when renaming a file. Perhaps you could look into a paste-as-plain-text option?
Thanks.
