Filter when filename contains square brackets

Steps to reproduce:
- Have a file "test [123].txt"
- Set the filter to "test [123].txt"
- Uncheck (!) "Regular Expression"
As regex is disabled, I would expect the square brackets to be taken literally and to have the file shown, but it´s not. Apparently, even when regex is disabled, wildcards still apply, but then why have both when they give you the same functionality? IMHO wildcards should be "?" and "*" only.
Either way, it´s not possible to filter for that file with "test \[asd\].txt", or is it?
