R532 - Zipped version cannot save ini-file in Users Appdata

#1 Post by ralfso » 05.04.2011, 17:21

After unzipping FreeCommanderXE.zip in an empty folder, freecommander cannot save its configuration file at
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\FreeCommanderXE\

Error: Folder is not writable.

(Vista, 32-bit)

It works fine on Win7/64 for me.
Could you check the setup on Vista?

Hi Marek,

its strange,
setup version doesn't ask for admin rights and starts to install till permission of making folder program files\FreeCommanderXE
starting setup as admin everything works ok.
I think fcxe_setup.exe should ask UAC for admin-rights automatically.

For starting the setup or the zip version as normal user first time:
Freecommander makes folder users\<user>\appdata\roaming\FreeCommanderXE
but on closing FC can't make a new file freecommander.ini to users\<user>\appdata\roaming\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.ini
(Error 1 and after a few seconds Error 2).

After making new empty text-file "freecommander.ini" manually at users\<user>\appdata\roaming\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.ini
FC can use this file and also making new FreeCommander.wcx.ini at users\<user>\appdata\roaming\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.wcx.ini

I had the same experience as Ralfso.

After I manually created the Settings folder, the 2 .INI files were created successfully.

I am using the zipped version on Windows 7 pro x64
