There is this one folder I can't open with FreeCommander for about a week.
I can open the folder in Windows Explorer with no problem.
In FC I can open the other folders on the same disk (other folders in that same folder) just fine.
It's just that one folder.
Every time I try to open it in FC, FC ghosts over and freezes up and FC's actions cause Explorer to freeze up too.
The folder contains two .3u files (play list files for VLC) and a bunch of directories full of mp3 files.
I ran a disk check on the HDD and found no issues.
However, I can't run the defrag on that partition either, so maybe it's not just FC - but it is some disk issue.
What can I do?

Re: Can't open just ONE folder
Well, I thought about that for a bit.
I renamed the offending folder and now I can open it just fine.
But I still don't know what the matter was.
[a minute later...]
Okay, I take that back. I could go into the folder *once*.
Now FC is ghosted over.
[a couple minutes later...]
Okay, after about two minutes, FC wakes up and I can see the folder contents.
But if I try to navigate within that folder then it freezes again.
DeFraggler (PiriForm's Disk Defragmenter) reports the disk health is GOOD.

Re: Can't open just ONE folder
Have you tried to open the folder with default FC settings?
Re: Can't open just ONE folder
Good idea, perhaps the option to calculate folder size is ON?
What kind of disk is it - HDD, SSD, network, USB disk, smartphone?
If possible, you could try to copy the whole folder to another path, in explorer, then try to access the other folder with FC - it could also identify any disk problem, if the copying fail.

Re: Can't open just ONE folder
Thanks for your help, y'all - I really appreciate it.
In fact, the HDD is dying.
I'm using Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier to copy the files off of the drive before it completely dies.
I had backups of the other partitions, but I hadn't ran the backup for this partition in a long time, apparently.

Re: Can't open just ONE folder
Good luck, what is the type of the HDD?
Re: Can't open just ONE folder
Thanks Dreamer,
I *think* it's a 1.5TB Seagate - I got it back before I knew what I was doing - but it's been in there for over 5 years with heavy use.
I'm replacing it with a 2GB WD Black ($80!).
I've gotten most of the stuff I wanted that I had not yet backed up. It's not *completely* dead, but certain sectors are definitely completely dead. It's bad enough to crash my computer during a diskcheck session. And Defraggler can't deal with it either even just for a file-listing. Unstoppable Copier does pretty well, though - that program is worth keeping in your toolkit.
