x64 installer?

#1 Post by AimHere » 09.02.2014, 04:29

Hi,

Is there an "installer" for the x64 version, or is there just the "portable" archive? I've put the portable version in a folder of its own on my system drive, but would prefer to get it installed in "C:\Program Files" like all my other 64-bit software (and have an uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs).

Also, is it safe to share the configuration between the 32-bit and 54-bit versions? (I assume this would happen if I deleted or renamed the "fcstart.ini" file in the x64 portable's folder before launching it.)

Thanks.

There is no x64 installer kit yet as far as I know. The 64 bit version is very new (still in beta phase) and it needs some testing time (the portable version is enough for this at the moment, I think).

Regarding the configuration sharing, I wouldn't do it. But I can't see a problem, except maybe the context menu settings.

I use the x64 version (Donor build 652) and have no problems with it on daily usage.
I don't miss an installer at all.
Such a tool is only necessary for mass installations
or users which are not even able to expand a Zip archive.
And such users should better stay with Windows Explorer.

Everything Version 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.67
FreeCommander XE 2024 Build 905 64-bit donor

No fujisan, that (donor version) does not include the 64 bit installer.

Sorry, was a joke because the installer is a zip-file :D which also has to be exbanded.
And to overwrite files in use by fc u also have to close your fc and use the win explorer.
And of course it is faster to download the installer, open it in your browser and install - and then open fc.
my point of view

Extract the ZIP-file to C:\Program Files and you'll have XE64 where you want it.

I had no problems to copy the settings folder from the x86 to the x64 version. If you use the Total7Zip-plugin you must change the paths in the respective settings.
If you use both versions parallel you must have the settings in a folder other than the user settings. I have the settings stored in the program folders.
