Drag N Drop From One Lister Window To The Other

I am just getting used to FreeCommander, and for the most part, it is a very easy transition from the "other" File Manager I used to use.

One thing I'm having trouble with, is that I'm used to being able to drag a file from one lister to the other, and have it copied. But, when I do this with FC, instead of copying, it does a Move. I have looked in the settings as much as I can, but I don't see a option to make drag N drop function as Copy, instead of Move.

Is there a setting for me to set this? Or is it hard-coded into the program that it just does a Move?

Thanks again!

Maybe you can use 'Show popup menu for left button drop' (Settings->Confirmations).

Thanks for the suggestion, however, that involves another click , which sort of defeats the whole drag N drop concept, yes? :-)

Thanks for the idea, though!!

You mean drag the file from one pane to another? If so, "move" is used if there is the same drive at the both panes. If there is another drive at the other pane, "copy" is used. This is a standard Windows behavior, tested in explorer.

You can hold Ctrl while dragging to always copy the item, Shift to always move.

Once again, thank you very much!

But I feel I must make comment, that in the *other* file manager, I could drag n drop from one directory on drive C: to another directory on drive C: and it would do a copy, not a move, without holding down Control.

Just a FYI ......

I vote for thinking of FreewareFan because I feel difficult with this problem but with TotalCommander is good. I hope in next version, FC will improve this problem. Thanks!

A fan of FC,

I'd prefer the Explorer style behaviour.

I also prefer "Explorer behaviour" : within the same drive I use to move files more often than copying them. So moving seems to be a logical default behaviour. And pressing CTRL when I want to copy a file is now a quasi reflex gesture. But I admit that it's finally a matter of habits.
