How does FC handle MOVES across drives?

#1 Post by Jerry » 03.12.2008, 04:35

(v2007.05)

When FREE COMMANDER "moves" files from one drive to another (which is really a copying/erasing operation), does anybody know if FC checks to see if the files arrived intact on the target drive before performing the "erase" operation?

XTREE for DOS used to perform this kind of check, and I suspect Windows Explorer DOESN'T do it. I've had a bad experience or two where Explorer would suck up the files on the SOURCE drive into memory, apparently planning to finish writing the files to the TARGET drive in the background, then prematurely erasing the source files. The target then failed (or filled up) and the incompletely written files were lost.

I've never had an FC MOVE fail, but how does it officially handle this contingency?

Thanks.

Jerry

Copy/Move operation is the same as in Windows.

Back in the day we'd do the whole VERIFY ON thing:

It was cool, especially in the days of 5.25" floppy disks. It did slow it down, but it was worth it.
