All the files in my Downloads folder flicker as they alternate between their set colors and black while one of the files are updated because it's being downloaded.

Uncheck this option:

you could switch off the monitor; that should help!

no offense JT! I'm facing the same flickering issue along many others bugs.
XE is out of beta but feels and behaves more like an alpha with plenty of (unfixed) bugs and half-baked features.

You get "flickering filenames" even with that option (see my previous post) disabled?

I am a jackass in the "real" life, so I'm not easily offended, don't worry.

And, if you don't mind me asking, what is your preferred freeware files manager? I like to test free apps and might give it a try.
