I can't rename file / folder starting with space key (" 123" to "123").
FreeCommander XE 2014 (release 650)
Windows 8.1
Can't rename file / folder
Re: Can't rename file / folder
First of all try to update to FreeCommander XE (release 665 public beta) http://www.freecommander.com/fc_beta_en.htm
There were many changes that affect rename, see changes at http://forum.freecommander.com/viewtopi ... &start=106
For me, in FC XE 673 donor under Windows XP SP 3 such rename (F2) of folder/file works fine.

Windows says: "the names of the source and destination files are the same".
So, I can rename " 123" to "1234" and "1234" to "123" without error
Re: Can't rename file / folder
Please step by step describe how you do rename, what hotkeys you are using, ...Windows says: "the names of the source and destination files are the same".
If Windows say so, I suggest that you use F6 button for it (with default setting "Use Windows" for copy/move/delete operations), but F6 works only for Move function.

F7 -> " 123"Timon wrote:Please step by step describe how you do rename, what hotkeys you are using, ...Windows says: "the names of the source and destination files are the same".

" 123" -> F2 -> "123"
Windows dialog: "1 Interrupted Action: the names of the source and destination files are the same"
I trying change "Delete/Copy/Move" settings between "Use windows" and "Use FreeCommander" but result is same.
Re: Can't rename file / folder
Oh, I think is Windows Explorer bug. Explorer can't rename this...
And option "Use FreeCommander" does not help.
In Explorer I can't create folder starting with space key, but I can create this folder in FreeCommander.

Re: Can't rename file / folder
" 123" and "123" are seen as identical by windows. This is why you can't simply delete a space at the beginning. Maybe FC should not allow names starting with a space character, as Explorer.
If you want to get rid of a leading space you can do it in two rename steps. First replace the space by any valid character and rename. In a second step you can delete the leading character and rename.

Re: Can't rename file / folder
I've run across this before. I rename the file to something different, i.e. delete the leading space and add a 1 at the end of the folder name. Second step - rename the folder and delete the 1 at the end. Might be better ways...
