What are you expecting if you select the "go to parent folder" symbol and pressing enter?

If you don't like the behaviour, you can deactivate the "go to parent folder" symbol in the file pane.

You can use Automatic views to set special views to several folders.
e.g. Condition: <sub>*\pictures\*

Don't know how to explain it better. If "sort folders as files" is cheched, folders and files are mixed in every display-sort order (by name, by date, by extension,… ). If "sort folders as files - except for name" is cheched, folders are sorted on top of files when name-column is...

This setting is for sorting folders on top of files when they are sorted by name and sorted mixed with files when they are sorted by date.

I don't know if setup-version has other settings than the portable version, but in a fresh unzipped portable version there are buttons for thumbnails and thumbnail-size. I think, 2 screenshots of explorer and FC window with the missing files could help.

But it's not recommended to turn "show folder size" always on, because on every change of folder the size of all subforlders is recalculated.
